Ornithologist. Arthur Augustus Allen graduated from Cornell University in 1907, received an M.A. in 1908, and a Ph.D. in 1911. He served as professor of ornithology at Cornell University from 1916 until his appointment as professor emeritus in 1953. In 1919, he taught the first wildlife conservation course in the United States. Ornithologist and educator Brina Kessel was born in Ithaca, New York, in 1925. She received her Ph.D. in ornithology from Cornell University in 1951 and in the summer of that year began her teaching career at the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines (now University of Alaska Fairbanks).
